Women's Inspiration

While we haven't found a definition explaining women oppressing women we have defined women-to-women oppression as: a female's involvement in behaviors that subjugate, punish, harm or injure another female; these behaviors may be based on personal experiences of prejudice, bias, discrimination, and internalized self-hatred.

Definition:

Women-to-women oppression may include any of the following:

a) any verbal or physical act of aggression, hostility, dominance, subjugation, force, or intimidation used against another woman to threaten or damage her sense of being

b) aggression that is displayed in a covert manner, where an individual may interrupt, condemn another's work unfairly, belittle an individual, or question her sense of judgment

c) behaviors that are conducted with the intent to intentionally hurt another person and make her feel bad

d) engaging in socially manipulative actions (indirect aggression) that involve a circuitous attack on another, thus remaining unidentified and avoiding counterattack (i.e., gossiping or social exclusion)

e) encouraging, supporting, or tolerating behaviors that serve to perpetuate the cycle of women-to-women oppression.
